From the Kentish Post or Canterbury News-Letter, July 28th 1747. Kindly sent from Alec Hasenson.

Advert which reads as "For Sale by the Candle at the Port of Dover, July 28th", a ship’s Cargo.

 

 

Presumably they are talking about a pub name here, not the name of the harbour. The advert is a bit vague however, in its wording, and if they mean the harbour rather than a pub, does not mention which area of the harbour the Cargo was being auctioned.
