19 Tower Hamlets

This is one I have never heard of before and Barry Smith either didn't find it either or never recognised it as a pub.

The information was sent to me from Paul Willis, who is researching his family tree and has also mentioned James Willis, landlord of the "Red Lion" at Charlton Green in Dover at the turn of the 20th century.

This pub, with the name of the "Windsor Castle" has been highlighted from the names on the 1851 census and show a George Dennis living at 19 Tower Hamlets and the house had the name "Windsor Castle". George is also shown in the 1871 census to be living at 12 West Street, the "Carriers Arms".

Today, there is no road called Tower Hamlets in the area, the entire area is know as the above, but there is a Tower Hamlets Road, originally called Black Horse Lane, and this leads onto a Tower Street. However, there is a Tower Hamlets Street, which has had several pubs along it, including the "Dew Drop Inn" still open, and I am going to assume 19 Tower Hamlets is in this area. Tower Hamlets Street started to develop in 1866.
