DOVER GRAMMAR SCHOOL FOR BOYS
PARENTS AND FRIENDS ASSOCIATION
Dear Parents/Guardians
We are pleased that your son will be coming to our school and we welcome him, and you, to the school family.
The Parents and Friends Association exists to raise funds to
provide more facilities for the School, to arrange social events and to help at
various school functions.
Over the years we have provided many "extras" through our
fund raising. These have included automatic bar code scanner and blinds for the
library, a table tennis table, football team strips, rugby posts, stools for the
new science labs plus financial support for sporting, drama, educational trips
and other extra curricular activities. All the money we raise raise is used for
the benefit of the boys and the school.
We provide help at events such as Sports Day, Open evenings
and Concerts.
We also sell new T-shirts and hold a good stock of second
hand uniform at very reasonable prices. If you are interested please contact the
secretary, chairman or second-hand coordinator.
Our most popular activities include wine and wisdom evening,
and we organise other events at various times of the year. Watch out for details
in the "Focus" newsletter. One of our main fund-raising activities is the
Christmas Draw. Draw tickets are sent home with all pupils, and we ask for your
support by selling the tickets to your family and friends.
The PFA runs a successful 200 club and we encourage you to
support this by completing the forms. Please return them as soon as possible to
enable us to enter you into the September draw.
We are always looking for volunteers to serve on the PFA
committee, and we are especially pleased to welcome parents of the new boys.
Don't wait to be asked-just fill in the form, return it to the school and we
will notify you of the next meeting. Alternatively, look for the date of the
next meeting in the "Focus" newsletter and just come along.
Hopefully you and your son will have been provided with
details of the school rules. We would like to bring a few points to your
attention. We as parents are very concerned about the safety of our children and
this is particularly so at the start and end of the school day. Congestion often
occurs outside the top gate, especially since measures were introduced to
prevent caravans getting onto the land above the gate. We ask parents not to
obstruct the the of the turning area just above it. Please do not park or stop
in this area, or on the yellow lines, and please do not use the gate for
turning. We would also be grateful if you would not use the school drive between
8.15 and 8.45 a.m. and 3.15 and 3.45 p.m.
Once again, we welcome you to the school and look forward to
meeting you.
Joan
Gambrell
Chairman.
