THE SCHOOL COUNCIL.

Chairman: James Evans
Secretary: James Eberlein
Treasurer: Peter Elms
(New officers will be elected in September 2002)

Representatives from every form make up the School Council which meets regularly with the Headteacher and Assistant Head. The Council has three functions.

To discuss items of agenda put forward by any member of the School, and out of those discussions to make recommendations to the Headteacher.

To promote voluntary extra-curricular activities. The Council can give advice on setting up or developing any such activities and it also has £100 per year at its disposal to assist with any expenses that it sees fit to cover.

To manage the money raising of the boys. This is mainly but not exclusively through running the ‘Lenten Appeal’ week, when money is raised for charities. The recipients of the money are chosen by the Council each year, usually one international, one national and one local charity. A good proportion of the money is raised through non-uniform days when boys can pay a sum to buy the right to come to school out of uniform. The Council chooses up to five days in the school year for such days. The usual pattern is to take most of these in Lenten Appeal week with one or perhaps two at another time of year. In March 2002 the Lenten Appeal raised £3,385.
