The former mayor of Deal, Cllr Marianne McNicholas, with some of the Dover Boys' Grammar School prrizewinners. |
A REMINDER that the Dover
Boys' Grammar School also serves Deal was given at the school's junior
prizegiving.
Former Deal mayor, Cllr Marianne McNicholas, presented the
prizes and was praised by the school's acting headteacher Neil Slater for the
way she had coped with the challenges in her year of office.
"Cll McNicholas's presence here today achieves another
objective of mine," said Mr Slater.
"We are called Dover Grammar School for Boys and that seems
reasonable.
"But a large proportion of our pupils and, for that matter our staff, live in or
near Deal.
"We are, in a very real way, Deal Grammar School"
He said that during her year as mayor Cllr McNicholas had
admirably represented the town.
"No mayor could have had greater challenges in their period
of office than occurred in Deal last year.
"Cllr McNicholas earned the admiration of us all at that
time.
"This school, then, is part of Deal. We share its joys and
its sorrows."
