BBC Radio Kent 20-22 Watling street Canterbury
PRESS RELEASE
On 4th November 1992 filming took place in the
School for the BBC2 programme on the United Kingdom in the 'Essential History of
Europe' series. The programme will be broadcast at 8.00 pm on Thursday 21st
January 1993.
The programme on the UK, unlike the rest of the series of 12, was made by a
French team from Nancy led by Director Patrick Le Gall. He was interested in the
way that life in schools in England goes beyond an academic curriculum to
address the whole person, he was interested in single sex schools and he was
interested in the issue of the monarchy. These matters led him to film:
- our assembly, which in this School is a daily gathering of the whole School;
- some games, in this case football;
- a History lesson about the Civil War, after which the pupils were interviewed
about their views on monarchy and republicanism;
- an interview with the Head Teacher during which questions were asked about the
aims of the School and about it being a school just for boys.
Antony Hook, one of the Year 8 boys interviewed in the History lesson, and Neil
Slater, the Head Teacher will as requested attend your studios at 4.30 pm on
Thursday 21st January.
