PUPILS at Dover Grammar
School for Boys have started up their own 'green' group to help the environment,
The boy's, who are aged between 12 and 18, have set up a
branch of the Friends of the Earth junior group Earth Action.
Sixteen-year-old Barry Dingwall, who is one of the group's
co-ordinators, said: "After learning about things like the Sellafield nuclear
plant we decided to get together and try and do something about it.
"We meet every month at a mobile the school gave us to share
with the school newspaper,"
The group, which started in November, already has sixteen
members and was officially opened by Friends of the Earth's Earth Action
officer, Helen Hudson.
Miss Hudson visited the school and gave a talk on how the
groups work.
Barry said: "So far we have written to the Government about
our concerns for Sellafield and we have helped Friends of the Earth campaign to
save rainforests.
"We have written to other Earth Action branches in the area
to see what we can do locally."
