Former grammar boy stole for drugs

A FORMER Dover Grammar School boy, who became an archaeologist, admitted a string of offences in the town, all committed to pay for his drug habit, a court heard.

Robert Stewart-Jones, 29, of Wickham Bush Cottages, Lydden, had a quarter of u gram of heroin a day for which he paid £20, Christopher Sutton-Mattocks, representing him, told Maidstone Crown Court.

He was, he said, now making efforts to overcome his addition.

Steward-Jones had admitted burgling Kingswood Villas and stealing a TV, the theft of a personal stereo from boots chemists, and burgling St. Mary's Nursing Home, where he stole a bottle of wine and food. He also admitted obtaining property by deception.

The offences all took place between February 12 and March 8 this year.

Recorder Henry Turcan made an order comprising 80 hours community service and two years probation for all four offences.
