Express spotlight on Dover's young achievers...
Dover Grammar School for Boys
![]() |
It was another year of impressive exam success and expansion at Dover Grammar School for Boys, guests heard at the annual prize-giving ceremony.
Head teacher Neil Slater said of last year's Year 13—back to collect prizes and certificates—almost all went to university with only two not qualifying.
There was a 94 percent pass rate at A level, with a general improvement over previous years.
Last year's Year 11 also collected prizes and certificates—most got eight or nine As and Bs and all but one got at least five GCSEs at Grade C or above.
Thirty seven percent of the grades were at A and A*, which kept the school high up the league tables. Mr Slater said the school building renovations were speeding ahead.
There were plans for increasing classroom space within the main building, he told guests.
Teaching staff increased and a professional librarian was appointed last year.
He reported the curriculum is developing towards new technology. A new fully-equipped computer room, with 27 computers, has been commissioned in the design technology area for graphics and electronics, as well more general use. The emphasis is on design.
Prizes were presented by former pupil, Old Pharosian Chris McDonald, London and South East England area director of the Department of Social Security Benefit Agency.
