Scouts rise to hiking challenge

INTREPID young explorers from Shepherdswell won the 13th annual Dover Lions Club Scout Challenge.

Forty-four Scouts aged 10-15 from groups across the district competed in teams of four on a 10-mile hike across countryside around Hougham and Alkham.

Checkpoints were manned by Scout leaders and Dover Lions while Raynet provided radio cover, making sure the event was totally monitored.

Trophies and badges were donated by the Lions.

Shepherdswell's winning team was David Ruthwell, Michael Green, Russell Williamson and Paul Evans.

The runners up were: Gary Thomas, Simon Arter, Bradley Thomas and Laurence Williams, from the St Andrew's, Dover.
