Getting down to business

BUSINESS students from Dover Grammar School for Boys were treated to a tour around the premises of AVO International.

AVO manufacturing manager Andrew Eberlein has volunteered to be the year 10 student's mentor for their GCSE course, One of the sessions of the course was dedicated to a tour giving the students first-hand experience of what happens within a company, from designing products to distribution.

Publicity manager Emma Harding said: "They were surprised and interested in the amount of high technology in the company.

They were not expecting that. Head of Business Studies Tasneem Shafi said working with AVO International had been rewarding for the students.

"The information gained has shown the students real life facts, rather than relying purely on text-book theory."

AVO International has been based in Dover for over 30 years and is a world leader in the design and manufacture of electrical test equipment, exporting from Kent to over 150 countries.

They recognise the importance of working with the local community in Dover and links with local schools are a top priority.
