Music awards
YOUNG musicians in Dover and Deal have received prizes and certificates for practical and theory exams with Trinity College of Music.
Mavis de Vere Ashbee, the former local representative of Trinity College of Music, presented the awards at the prizegiving at the Dover Girls' Grammar School.
Mrs Ashbee spoke of the 120-year link between Trinity College and the Dover and Deal area, and of some of the local people who established prizes in their names, some dating back to the beginning of the 20th century.
A total of 77 certificates was presented. During the ceremony, musical items were performed by Helen Moloney (piano solo), Samantha Stanaway and Rosalind Harrison (piano duet), Rebecca Johnson (keyboard), Caroline Elward and Katie Moore (recorders), Jayne Robbins and Lucy Barrett (singing), Miles Brett (violin), Ian Riddlestone and Paul Dove (clarinets).
Prize winners were: Constance File Memorial Prize - Katy Moore (Initial grade recorder), Beaufoy Memorial Prize - Benjamin Bulow (grade two keyboard), H J Taylor Prize - Giles Barrett (grade four keyboard), H J Taylor Exhibition - Lucy Barrett (grade five singing), Dover Prize - Jayne Robbins (grade eight singing), F W Crofts Prize - Chloe Self (grade one singing), Astley Prize - Fiona Edwards (grade four theory), Woodwind Prize - Ian Riddlestone (grade six clarinet), Sydney Clout Memorial Prize - Thomas Smith (grade three piano), Thomas H Hill and Helena A Hill Remembrance Prize - Samantha Stanaway (grade seven piano).
Committee prizes, practical: Olivla Cowens (Initial piano), Rebecca Johnson (grade one keyboard), Lindsay Whale (grade two singing), Miles Brett (grade three violin), Chloe Self (grade four recorder), Paul Witty (grade five keyboard), Emma Wise (grade seven singing).
Theory: Sarah Barnes (grade one), Alexander Elward (grade two), Laura Ritson (grade three), Jonathan De Keyser (grade four).
