Reopening the Grammar debate

A survey carried out in Castle Ward as part my successful election to Dover District Council in May, we asked the question: Do you agree with Labour MPs in Kent that Dover's Grammar schools should be abolished?

The result was that 4.24 per cent of the people actually agreed.

I know this is but one ward in the town, but I am sure that the view of the vast majority of the people in the area is very similar and they are against the present plans.

We know that Dover's MP supports the abolition of grammar schools. Did he support the MP for Thanet South when an attempt was made to reduce the qualifying number to meet the ballot in order to push through their objective, ideas which less than one in 20 of his constituents agree with? Does he really represent the people of Dover and Deal?

Are we also going to be faced with Cllr Hansell continuing to back this scheme and together with the local MP recommencing campaign against grammar schools in September?

Cllr Nigel Collor, Maison Dieu Road, Dover.
