School's prize night

 

FORMER pupil John English returned to Dover Boys' Grammar School last Thursday, to present the records of achievement, GCSE certificates and Year 11 prizes.

He is no stranger to the school. As well as being an old boy, he has also been chairman of the governors and is a parent at the school.

Sixty-three students, the majority now in the sixth form, attended the ceremony with their families and friends.

The programme included music by students, the Brass Ensemble and the Big Band.

Giles Barrett, winner of the, Sydney Clout Music Prize, played a piano solo.

Latin Prize, Stephen Taylor, Art Prize; Gary Thomas, Pfizer Prize for Technology; Paul Witty, Frederick Ashman Memorial Prize for Mathematics. Matthew Ayers and Jonathan De Keyser, prizes for General Academic Achievement; Samuel Cairns, The Nigel Pointer prize for special endeavour, William Swallow, Martin Broom memorial prize for special endeavour and the Ross Arnold and John Carey memorial trophy for cross country running; James Downer, Combined Cadet Force Contingent Commander's Prize for Initiative and Enterprise.

Certificates for outstanding service to music were presented to David Collins, James Garlick, Alistair McPherson, Louis Myers and Paul Savage.
