Farewell to cadet leader
DOVER Grammar Combined Cadet Force said goodbye to one of their officers at a week end exercise.
Flt Lt Paul Hannet has left for a position in London.
The RAF section attended ground training national finals at RAF Oxbridge for the first time. Led by CWO Gary Thomas, the team of 13 came 10th overall and third in the drill section.
At the annual handover parade CWO Thomas, Under Officer Vicky Blanchflower and Cpl Amy Shrubsole stepped down, making way for Flt Sgt Shaun Friend, Sgt Naomi Cannons and senior cadet James Downer.
Over Easter, Flt Sgt Friend jumped at the opportunity to fly from RAF Brize Norton to Akrotiri in Cyprus.
Sgt Cannons and CWO Downer also went to Akrotiri for a reward camp. During the two weeks they got work experience while enjoying the island's tourist attractions.
CWO Downer led the winning flight in the camp's inter-flight competition.
Forty cadets from the army and RAF sections went on a training week in Dorset at Easter, including abseiling, kayaking and climbing.
Laura Gisby, Shane Matticks, Patrick Mallery, Alex Cooper, James Jolliffe and Liam Desborough all were awarded with kayaking qualifications.
