Boys school to seek specialist status

THE Dover Boys Grammar School is launching a bid for specialist status this evening (Thursday).

The school is aiming for business and enterprise status, and is appealing to local businesses to support the bid.

"We aim to encourage positive attitudes to business amongst students and inspire them to become tomorrow's business leaders, managers and entrepreneurs," said assistant head teacher Mike Harrison.

"We share the Chancellor of the Exchequer's vision of every young person being made aware of the opportunities in business.

With this in mind the school wishes to develop a visible business and enterprise college character which will emphasise active participation, encouraging students to build their self-confidence and develop team working, decision making, problem solving and presentation skills."

If the bid is successful, the school plans to expand the number of innovative and interactive programmes on offer, improving the facilities and resources available to the school and the wider community.

Mr Harrison said local organisations could benefit directly from the increased access to these improved resources. Local businesses can also build a partnership with the school, giving them' a competitive edge in recruitment and developing employees and their skills.

"It is also a simple, cost-effective, practical and tangible way of putting something back into the community rich in PR and marketing potential," he said.
