Terrors of the town line up for horror 'Oscars'

DOVER held its own version of the Oscars when awards were presented to young members of Dover Operatic and Dramatic Society for their horror productions.

The Next Generation of Horrors, presented at St Edmund's School, consisted of four plays Written, performed and directed by the youngsters themselves.

The plays all had a horror theme to fit in with Halloween.

They ranged from a spooky experience in a wood, a tale of dreams, reality and deja vu, a complicated plot involving romance, greed and murder and a salutary lesson in being careful with idle wishes.

At the end of Saturday night's performance, awards were made and it was Chris Leach's production, "Be Careful What You Wish For" which almost swept the board.

Chris a Dover grammar School for Boys pupil, was named as best director, one of his cast, Jessica West, was voted best actress and the play was named best play.

Matt Buddle, who appeared in Scott Cain's production of A Midsummer Nightmare, was voted best actor.

Now some of the youngsters are among the cast busy rehearsing for the society's next production, Treasure Island, which will be staged at Dover Town Hall from January 13-17.

WINNING TEAM: All smiles now - but they had a cautionary tale to tell in their play Be Careful What You Wish for, one of the four plays performed by the Next Generation.
