Glory beckons for Grammar

IN an excellent year, Dover Grammar teams have reached two Kent cup finals with another semi still to play.

DGS entered eight cups this season with all but one of their teams reaching at least the last eight - a fine achievement as almost 100 schools enter of the Kent knockout competitions. The schools' under 15 side, which includes two Kent and seven district players; play their final against St George's (Gravesend) at Dover's Hoverspeed Stadium on March 31 (kick off 7.30pm).

They won their quarter final against Borden Grammar 6-1 and beat Valley Park 4-0 in the semi.

The first eleven are through to their final where they play either Harvey from Folkestone or Kelsey Park.

To reach that final they overcame the previous undefeated Tunbridge Wells Grammar 3-1 in the semi-final.

Dover also made it into the last 32 of the England Schools Under 18 Trophy that had attracted a massive entry of 600 schools.

The under 14s reached the Kent Cup semi-final at the last 32 of the national trophy.

DGS Under 16s are one game away from their final - and a win over arch rivals Harvey from Folkestone tomorrow will give them their big chance.

But they needed a thrilling penalty shoot out before they reached the semi-final by beating holders Kemnal Technology School.
