Association offers help to young business folk
A YOUNG Dover entrepreneur has been appointed vice-chairman of a new group - the first of its kind in the country - aimed at helping young business people.
The Kent Association of Young Entrepreneurs (KAYE) is an
Institute of Directors initiative aimed at people aged 18-35 who are either
entrepreneurs running their own company, young directors or professionals within
a company or are seriously considering starting up in business.
James Evans, 20, who is managing director of Dover based Firstcar, is the vice-chairman of the association. "As an entrepreneur myself, I can appreciate how beneficial this organisation will be to Kent," said James, a former Dover Grammar School boy.
"I am looking forward to meeting like-minded business people who I can share experiences with and learn from, as well as passing on my own knowledge and advice."
Alex Ridings, the chairman of the association and a young entrepreneur himself, commented: "The success of the launch shows how long the county has needed an organisation like ours to champion the cause of young entrepreneurship.
"There was a real sense of excitement among the attendees. The feedback we and the IoD have received is extremely positive - we can help create and stimulate young entrepreneurship throughout the county." The launch attracted a variety of people from established young business people to those just starting out.
Officially launching the association, Education Liaison Officer for IoD Kent Margaret Pearson, added: "Supporting and encouraging entrepreneurship is a national priority for thie IoD. KAYE is unique and will be watched closely by IoD Pall Mall - they are extremely interested in what we are doing and what we have achieved to date.
"Becoming involved with an organisation like KAYE - which covers all geographical and sector groups across Kent and Medway - is an opportunity that many young people have not had before."
The association's first event How to Get Out There and Do Business - sees IoD Kent branch chairman Alyson Howard talk about how to make the most of social business opportunities.
She understands the challenges facing new business people when they take the courageous step of going it alone. It takes place at the Spitfire Pub, Kings Hill, on July 13, at 6.30pm, with the opportunity to network with other young entrepreneurs.
