ACADEMIC achievement, sporting success and good citizenship were
rewarded at Dover Boys' Grammar School junior prize-giving ceremony.
The school's new head teacher, Sally Lees, gave out awards for achievements
ranging from excellent exam results to good humour and regular attendance.
Merit certificates Were awarded to at least two pupils from each form in Years 7, 8 and 9 who had worked hard, attained good academic results, done well at sports, held positions of responsibility or simply displayed a helpful and friendly attitude.
Certificates and prizes were given for achievement in particular subjects, contributions to school music and to the Army and RAF sections.
Platinum certificates went to the boys who had received 100 or more commendations during the school year, with prizes being given to James Birbeck; Year 7, Lloyd King, Year 8 and Year 9 pupil Timothy Stone, for receiving the highest number of commendations in their year group.
Year 7 pupil Scott Wright was awarded four subject certificates for his exam results in English, Mathematics, German and History, while Year 9 student Dale King won six prizes for his achievements in Mathematics, Latin, French, Geography, History and Religion.
"He is our best student in Year 9 and he also received the second highest number of commendations in the year group," said his form tutor Brian Haines.
"Dale and his brother Lloyd are both an academic year ahead of themselves and work very hard."
The Audrey Elliott prize for special endeavour went to Year 7 pupil Thomas Kent.
"He was very shy and withdrawn initially but has made a huge effort to settle in," said Head of Year 7 Martine Hargrave.
"He has always got a beaming smile on his face and it has been lovely to see him settle in as he is a lovely lad."
