School lab blaze being investigated
MORE than 20 firefighters were called to Dover Boys Grammar School when fire broke out in a chemistry laboratory.
Fortunately, staff were still at the school and were alerted by the smell of burning, just after 6pm last Wednesday.
Fire crews from Dover, Whitfield and St Margaret’s went to the scene and put the fire out.
Damage
The cause of the fire, which involved paperwork on shelves, is being investigated.
Damage was confined to the first-floor laboratory although surrounding rooms suffered some smoke damage.
A spokesman for the fire service said it was fortunate that staff were still at the school and noticed the fire.
Otherwise it could have spread into the roof space, causing much more extensive damage.
