HOMEWORK 7

JUNIOR HACKSAW MANUFACTURING DETAIL

Manufacture of wooden pattern

You are to use A3 paper (supplied), and this paper is to have a fancy border in colour of your chosen design no greater than 20 mm.

In the bottom right hand corner you should construct a box 20mm high and as long as is necessary to print your full name in capital letters, central both horizontal and vertical, exactly 16 mm high.

The top of the page should show the TITLE “SPLIT PATTERN MANUFACTURE”, as colourful and large as you like.

By now you should have all made your pattern and indeed may have cast it in aluminium. The homework this week is to produce a running board showing diagrams and step by step instructions of how you made the pattern.

The running board diagrams should include pictures and the tools you need to do the following.

1.      Size of the wood used and how it was glued together with card and why. I suggest an exploded view in colour and correctly dimensioned.

2.      Marking out the handle and tools used for cutting the shape. Name all tools you used. Please show the shape of your handle before it has been cut.

3.      The correct size of drills and depths of each holes for locating pins including dowel assembly and why they are needed.

4.      The formation of the draft and shape of the handle accurately naming all the tools you used. I suggest a side view for this, showing the position of card in place as a different colour.

5.      Splitting and drilling of lifting holes showing their position you have used prior to “green sand moulding” and casting. Name the metal used and casting temperature.
