Problem: Remembering the names of pupils in each class.
Solution: Design a name badge to be worn by all pupils in each lesson.

Design criteria.
Design 5 different shaped badges.

  1. square 60mm X 60mm
  2. rectangle 80mm X 30mm or 30mm X 80mm
  3. circle Diameter 60mm
  4. Regular Hexagon 60mm across corners
  5. Any shape.
Marking schedule 2 points for each correct design
Marking schedule 2 points for each correct size

Within each badge any of above 1 to 5 must contain pupils full name in

A Black & White only
B Two colours
C More than two colours
D With graphic
E Free choice.
Please note. Any design can use any of A, B, C, D, E.
Marking schedule 2 points for each correct colour scheme

Each pupil is also to make a back hexagon 50mm across corners in polypropylene sheet 0.5mm in thickness. This backing hexagon to have two holes drilled it to house brooch pin. The holes are roughly 38mm apart.
Marking schedule 2 points correct shape, 2 points for correct size

Each pupil marks each others work from 1st with 5 points to 5th with 1 point. This is just a bit of fun to let each of the boys see each others work and mark to their own preferences.
I allocate 10 marks for accuracy of filling in the marks and following the instructions given before the lesson start. Pupils are not down graded for having a different opinion of marking preference. The marks they use for the above are their own personal views.

Lastly each pupil chooses one design and assembles the brooch pin, backing hexagon and chosen design with the hot glue gun.
10 marks are allocated for the final product with respect to neatness of assembly and whether the final product fulfils the original problem and solution. I.e. can the badge be easily read!

Here is shown a few of the boys work (chosen at random).
