DESIGN PROJECT O

New School Flag.

A few years ago the school ran a competition to design and produce a school flag to be flown on the flag pole at the top of the tower. Mrs. C Woods, the school secretary made the winning design, which the school still flies on special occasions. That same competition is to be run again.

You are first to research and look at different flag designs from around the world, as well as the current school flag. Please note that the school flag was made by sewing various different coloured pieces of material together, so complicated designs may not be feasible to make in this way. The flag you are to design should have a theme that is connected to any aspect of the school.

Using A3 paper, you will need a border, your name in the bottom right hand corner and the following design criteria:-

In the top, middle of the page you are to have the title SCHOOL FLAG.

You are to divide your paper into two equal halves, making a left and a right hand portion on your page.

In the left hand portion, you are to first draw an oblong, to scale, stating under this oblong what the scale is you are using. I.e. 100mm=1m etc.

Within this rectangle, you must show what shapes of material will be needed to be used and where they will be stitched together. I.e. design the flag without any colour.

In the right hand portion, you are to copy EXACTLY the same as the design on the left, but adding the colour to be used.

You may use any number of colours. This exercise MUST be hand drawn and computer graphics ARE NOT to be used.

Marking scheme.

Border 10 marks for design and neatness

Title 10 marks for design and neatness.

10 marks for using the correct scale.

10 marks for being able to copy the design accurately on both halves.

30 marks for design of flag on left.

30 marks for neatness and colour of flag on right.
